Overview:
This training programme is intended for individuals working in confined spaces assessed as medium risk or lower. Such environments may present a realistic likelihood of encountering specific hazards, require entry by more than one person, involve movement or traversing within the space, and necessitate the use of escape breathing apparatus. Participants will also be prepared to manage other challenges commonly associated with medium‑risk confined spaces.
AIMs:
To provide delegates with the knowledge and practical experience to enable them to work safely in a medium risk confined space.
Agenda:
- Clarify the definition and characteristics of a confined space.
- Identify the specific risks associated with confined space entry.
- Understand regulatory duties, including measures to avoid unnecessary entry.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and recognise potential hazards.
- Examine atmospheric dangers, including harmful gases and oxygen deficiency.
- Learn the principles of gas monitoring and correct use of detection equipment.
- Apply safe systems of work, including permits to work procedures.
- Define roles and responsibilities for all personnel involved.
- Establish clear and effective communication methods.
- Inspect and correctly use tripods, winches, and fall arrest systems.
- Check and operate personal escape breathing apparatus safely.
Attendance:
Full attendance of the course is mandatory to achieve a pass.
Entry Requirements
Delegates must be competent in English at an operative level. The course content is suited to all ability levels.
Photographic ID will be requested by the tutor at the start of the course (e.g. Driving Licence/Passport).
Delegates must be at least 16 years old.
PPE – Please bring your own PPE, including helmet, gloves, hi-vis clothing, and steel-toe boots.
Learner Numbers:
The maximum number of delegates per course is 12. This is a requirement of the awarding body and are not subject to appeal.
