EUSR Category 1 & 2 Locate Utility Services & Implement Safe Digging

Overview:

To develop individual competence on the correct operation/use of cable locating equipment. The training also covers safe digging practices in line with approved guidance, legislation & manufacturers specifications. Resulting in the delegate having the confidence and skills to work effectively.

Aims:

The course aims to provide the delegate with the EUSR card which remains valid for 3 years.

Agenda:

  • Gain a solid understanding of essential underground legislation and industry standards covering excavation, construction, and groundworks, such as HSG47, HSWA 1974,
  • HSG150, CDM 2015, Work at Height Regulations 2015, PUWER 1998, Confined Spaces Regulations 1997.
  • Develop the ability to read and interpret utility maps, drawings, and line search documentation.
  • Gain knowledge in using cable location tools (Cat & Genny) to accurately identify underground services.
  • Recognise/identify potential risks and hazards associated with ground survey and detection activities.
  • Understand the limitations of detection equipment and utility drawings, and how these may affect accuracy.
    Appreciate the financial, operational impact of utility strikes on contractors and stakeholders.
  • Identify and differentiate between best practices and poor practices through comprehensive knowledge of this specialised field.
  • Identify different soil and ground types, adapting techniques to suit varying site conditions.
  • Confidently carry out or interpret Risk Assessments and Permits to Work.
  • Apply safe excavation methods, including correct and effective hand-digging techniques.

Attendance/ Who Should Attend Full attendance of the course is mandatory to achieve a pass. Anyone involved in utility services and excavation work will benefit from this training.

Entry Requirements Delegates must be competent in English at an operative level. The course content is suited to all ability levels. Photographic ID will be requested by the tutor at the start of the course (e.g. Driving Licence/Passport). Delegates must be at least 16 years old. PPE – Please bring your own PPE, including helmet, gloves, hi-vis clothing, and steel-toe boots.

Learner Numbers The maximum number of delegates per course is 8. This is a requirement of the awarding body and are not subject to appeal.
