Course Description
Streetworks training provides delegates with the vital skills and knowledge for safe and efficient work on public highways. This training promotes a safety-oriented environment by emphasising correct procedures, conducting risk assessments, and using suitable equipment. The NRSWA operative course ensures all work carried out on roads and infrastructure in the United Kingdom is performed to a high standard in a safe manner. After completing the course successfully, the NRSWA operative will have the correct training to carry out streetworks to the standard required by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
Aims & Agenda
The NRSWA course aims to provide Supervisors with:
- The requisite skills and knowledge to effectively monitor street works operations, in compliance with the NRSWA Act 1991, which stipulates the safety measures for themselves and others.
- All events will cover NRSWA LA S1 – S5 as standard. If you require NRSWA S6 for Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs or NRSWA S7 for Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways as part of your training, please make enquiries during your booking.
Agenda
- Risks associated with striking underground apparatus
- Recognising the signs of underground services and interpreting utility plans
- Using tools to locate underground structures
- Marking services ready for excavation
- An awareness of signing, lighting, and guarding the workplace and the erection of temporary traffic signals
- Methods of excavation, safety measures, and the use of road drills, etc., and how to support utility apparatus within the excavation
- Selection and storage of excavated materials for re-use
- Placing and compaction of backfill and sub-base materials
- Laying and compaction of cold-lay bituminous materials
- Theory and Practical Assessments
Attendance/ Who Should Attend
Full attendance of the course is mandatory to achieve a pass.
This course is for delegates who supervise those who reinstate roadways in line with the 2nd Edition Specification for reinstatement of openings in the Highway and the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (NRWSA), revised 2002 Code of Practice. New Roads and Street Works (NRWSA) training is compulsory for anyone who may be involved in working on and adjacent to the public highways.
Entry Requirements
The NRSWA Streetworks Supervisors Course requires delegates to have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
Photographic ID will be requested by the tutor at the start of the course, i.e., Driving Licence/Passport.
Learner Numbers
The minimum number of delegates per course is 4. The maximum number of delegates per course is 10. These are a requirement of the awarding body and are not subject to appeal.
This course can also be delivered as an unaccredited course if required.
