Health and Safety Awareness (HAS)

Course Description

The course highlights potential hazards when working on site, providing practical advice for keeping yourself and others safe during your working day. You will also cover your individual and employer’s responsibilities and what to do if you think health and safety is being put at risk.

The course covers the importance of preventing incidents and accidents, Health and Safety Law, how your role contributes to the control and management of activities on projects, risk assessments, method statements, and reporting unsafe acts.

HAS Course Aims & Objectives

To ensure the delegate understands and can demonstrate an understanding of:

  • Why they are carrying out their identified roles.
  • What is expected of them.
  • How they can contribute to the safety of the workplace.

At the end of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand why they need to prevent accidents.
  • Have an understanding of Health and Safety Law.
  • Understand how their role fits into the control and management of the site.
  • Understand the need for method statements and risk assessments.
  • Understand the need to perform safely and to stop and ask for advice if unsure.
  • Report unsafe acts to prevent an accident.

Entry Requirements

Delegates must be competent in English at an operative level. The course content is suited to all ability levels.

Photographic ID will be requested by the tutor at the start of the course (e.g. Driving Licence/Passport).

Please be aware that it is a requirement of our Awarding Body – Site Safety Plus (CITB) that ALL delegates attending this course must be able to read and understand English. If you do not believe you have sufficient English skills to pass the examination, please contact us for advice on reasonable adjustments allowed by the Awarding Body.

Learner Numbers

The minimum number of delegates per course is 3, and the maximum is 20. These limits are set by the awarding body and are not subject to appeal.

Site Safety Plus Course (SSP)

The CITB HAS is part of the Site Safety Plus course suite. CITB Site Safety Plus provides a range of courses for individuals seeking to develop skills in the building, civil engineering, and related industries.

Designed from operative to senior manager level, these courses provide the skills needed to progress in the construction industry—from a one-day Health and Safety Awareness course to the five-day Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS). We also offer refresher courses to ensure workers stay up to date with the latest safety techniques and industry best practices.

This course can also be delivered as an unaccredited course if required.
